At GATE OF LIFE, a deep understanding and respect for modern Western medicine is met with a passion for traditional Eastern acupuncture and moxibustion.

Patricia Mahone’s experiences with patients have led her to two truths that are often ignored within our modern healthcare system—that each person is unique in their experience of and response to health and illness, and that the body, mind, and spirit have the innate ability as a unit to heal themselves.

Barbara Simpson has guided her practice by one fundamental principle—to focus on the patient, ever mindful that it is not the disease that receives the treatment, but the person.

Together, they diligently pursue the study of Five Element Acupuncture and Moxibustion as a complementary practice to other medical treatment, helping their patients to regain and maintain their original state of balance and harmony.

After maintaining private acupuncture practices in Baltimore and Columbia, Maryland for over twenty-five years combined, they moved to Buffalo’s Elmwood Village in 2007 to start GATE OF LIFE and continue their advanced studies and development with Niki H. Bilton, M.Ac., M.B.Ac.C. (UK), the Academic Dean of the Ongiara College of Acupuncture and Moxibustion in Ontario, Canada, where Barbara holds a faculty position.
